The next-generation Volkswagen Touareg will be unveiled in Beijing on March 23, 2018.

Serving as the brand’s flagship, the new Volkswagen Touareg won’t be heading to the U.S., which is why its debut in China makes sense. Currently, China is the world’s strongest growing SUV market and is Volkswagen’s largest individual market.

Designed by Klaus Bischoff, head of Volkswagen Design, the Touareg promises to have an “unmistakable appearance that is strong in character.” It will offer one of the largest digital cockpits in its class, called the Innovision Cockpit, that will offer a new type of infotainment environment.

Expect to see plenty of innovative assistance features to enhance safety and comfort. Volkswagen says the Touareg’s connectivity “makes it a driving internet node,” while the drivetrain, air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and roll stabilization all ensure a safe and dynamic driving experience.

Since its launch in 2002, the Touareg has sold around one-million units worldwide. That number will surely grow in the coming years, especially with the introduction of the third-generation model, but the U.S. won’t be contributing to that total anymore.
