The 2019 Lexus ES has made its official debut, ushering a new, sportier-looking era for the front-wheel drive luxury sedan.

The 2019 Lexus ES rides on Toyota’s Global Architecture which will enable a smoother, quieter ride and has also allowed the ES to grow a bit in size. The sedan is now 2.6-inches longer than before, and also 1.8 inches wider and a 0.2-inches lower.

Powering ES350 models will be Toyota’s 302 horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine, which is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. A hybrid ES300h model will also be available from launch, which is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and self-charging battery pack. It will offer 215 total system horsepower and, more importantly, up to 44 MPG combined.

An ES350 F Sport model is also offered, which features Adaptive Variable Suspension, a Sport+ mode and Engine Sound Enhancement that’s piped in through the stereo system. All F Sport models will also receive a small rear spoiler, F Sport badging standard 19-inch wheels and special aluminum interior trim inspired by Japanese sword making.

Inside, the new ES features an available 12.3-inch widescreen display, which is joined by other tech such as an Apple CarPlay, an Amazon Alexa AI assistant and onboard wi-fi. Lesser models not equipped with navigation will receive an eight-inch display screen. Active safety systems are also on offer through the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 suite of technologies. This includes a new pedestrian-detecting Pre-Collision System, in addition to more common tech such as lane departure assist and adaptive cruise control.

The 2019 Lexus ES is slated to go on sale in September 2018.

This car has always been Toyota's equivalent of the Emperor's New Clothes. If you can be fooled into believing it is a real Lexus, then that is what it must be. Of course, other manufacturers are guilty of this too; consider the Cadillac XTS......
