Porsche 911 GT2 RS Based Cup Car Looks Wildly Fast at Monza

A mysterious Porsche 911 GT2 RS based racecar has been filmed putting in laps at Monza in Italy.

It’s not immediately clear what this race ready 911 is for, but it looks ridiculously quick in the video embedded above. It’s definitely intended for track use only, evidenced by its slick tires, roll cage, red recovery hooks and huge rear wing.

If we had to guess, we’d say this is the replacement for the current 911 GT3 Cup Car. It appears to be a much more serious piece of kit than the GT3 Cup, but that would put Porsche’s one-make racing series on similar footing as the Lamborghini Super Trofeo and Ferrari Challenge series, which both feature very fast spec cars based on the Huracan and 488, respectively.

The test prototype appears to be heavily inspired by the GT2 RS, featuring the same front fascia and front quarter panel venting and a similar rear engine cover intake. It also has some unique equipment of its own, though, such as the revised NACA duct hood, ultra-aggressive wing endplates and vented rear bumper.

In the video, it sounds as though the prototype is powered by Porsche’s 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged engine, but it’s hard to say for sure. If this is indeed a racecar, a race-spec sequential transmission and rear wheel drive will likely be on the table as well.
