The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE will get the same wide dual-screen display/dashboard combination that has come to denote other Mercedes vehicles such as the S-Class and E-Class.

Our photographers caught the 2019 GLE testing in the US this week and got a very good glimpse of its interior in doing so. The photos show the dash layout of the new midsize crossover, revealing its widescreen display, steering wheel and center touchpad controller. It looks as though the GLE will carry typical Mercedes interior touches as well, such as the configurable ambient lighting, door-mounted seating controls and a steering-wheel-mounted gear stalk/selector.

Previous spy photos essentially revealed the 2019 GLE’s exterior styling in full. The crossover will take after other Mercedes crossovers, such as the smaller GLC, and doesn’t seem as though it will have too many surprises in store. It essentially looks like a grown-up GLC in these spy photos, which fits with the so-called ‘Russian Doll Effect’ that has come to denote much of Mercedes’ car and crossover lineup.

As for the mechanical bits, we hear the base GLE will be offered in rear-wheel drive format in a bid to save weight and hopefully a little fuel. It’s not clear what engines may be on offer, but we’re expecting Mercedes’ 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 to appear in upper trim levels. A plug-in hybrid should arrive eventually as well, but may not be available from launch.

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE should make its debut later this year.
