Lexus F Performance Models May One Day Be Electrified
Future Lexus F performance cars may not rely on just an internal-combustion engine. The brand’s president, Yoshihiro Sawa, believes the future must include electrification, and that likely means hybridized F performance cars.
Sawa told Auto Express in a Monday report the brand is looking at various powertrains for future F models, and there could even be an F grand tourer in the works. He explicitly mentioned an F GT car, “which could be a hybrid with an electric motor and a strong engine, giving a different kind of drive feel.”
But, he didn’t go into detail about what the internal-combustion engine side of things may look like. Thus far, Lexus has dropped V8 engines under the hoods of its F models. Sawa is keen to leave every option on the table, however.

He added, “we don’t stick to V8, V10, twin-turbocharged,” and Lexus will instead “find a way to connect to the next era.”
We shouldn’t expect to see the internal-combustion engine vanish from Lexus performance cars, though. Sawa said customers appreciate the sounds and dynamics an engine provides.
Aside from the F performance division, the brand president said Lexus will launch a battery-electric car, but the company is undecided on what kind of vehicle it will be as the brand decides “which kind of EV will be lovable.”
