The Liberty Walk Suzuki Jimny Will Soon Be a Reality
Sometimes it takes a little while for a car to be widely recognized as cool.
The MK2 Volkswagen Golf is a good example of this. Once upon time it just another commuter car – but now it has that 1980s retro look that both classic car lovers and younger fans of modified cars flock to. Vintage pickup trucks are another example.
The new Suzuki Jimny, on the other hand, is a car that was instantly recognized as cool. With its unabashedly boxy shape, circular headlights and no-frills interior, the little off-roader was destined to be well-loved by car enthusiasts.
It’s no surprise, then, that the tuning experts over at Liberty Walk are developing a body kit and other parts for the Jimny. The Japanese company posted a photo of its vision for an LB-tuned Jimny on its website recently, showing off some custom parts such as a carbon fiber roof-mounted light bar, a carbon fiber hatch spoiler, carbon fender flares, aftermarket alloy wheels and even a side-exit exhaust.
To our eye, Liberty Walk’s Jimny, which it calls the ‘G Mini’, looks like a Brabus-tuned Mercedes-Benz G-Class that has been shot with a shrink ray – and that’s a very good thing.
Unfortunately, Suzuki has no plans to sell its new Jimny in North America. We think that’s a bit of a shame. With crossovers and off-road vehicles gaining popularity, we think Suzuki would have no trouble at all selling the affordable Jimny to North American consumers.
