The 2019 Hyundai Elantra GT N Line has been unveiled for the Canadian market, bringing some sporty looks and other chassis improvements to the Korean hatchback.

The best part about the Elantra GT N Line is that it’s not just a cosmetic package. Hyundai actually wanted to make this slightly hotter N Line model handle better and as such, it gets more robust engine and transmission mounts, a quicker steering rack, slightly stiffer springs and retuned dampers, among other tuning enhancements. Larger front brakes are also on the table.

Other upgrades include sportier N Line front and rear fascias, N Line side mirrors, N Line rear badging and 18-inch N Line wheels. The cabin is set apart from standard Elantra GT models by its leather wrapped N Line steering wheel, N Line sport seats, N Line gearshift knob, sport instrument cluster and red stitching.

Powering the Elantra GT N Line is Hyundai’s 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. The 1.6-liter engine is rated at 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft torque and is offered with a six-speed manual or optional seven-speed DCT with paddle shifters.

The Elantra GT N Line replaces the 2018 Elantra GT Sport sedan in Hyundai Canada’s product portfolio. Its introduction “points to a wider N Line expansion among other Hyundai products,” the automaker says, so keep an eye out for more N-branded vehicles in the near future. Hyundai’s made mention of both a Kona N and an electric Ioniq N, along with a standalone N model that could be mid-engine, so there’s definitely some exciting things coming from the brand in the next ew years.

The Elantra GT N line and the 2019 Elantra GT go on sale in Canada this month. Prices will start at $27,199 CAD (about $20,310 USD) for the entry level model and $30,699 CAD (about $22,900 USD) for the loaded Elantra GT N Line Ultimate.

There’s no word yet on US availability, but we expect Hyundai’s US arm to make an announcement with regard to the Elantra GT N Line shortly. Back in the summer, we broke the story that Hyundai had the intention of bringing the warm hatch to North America, finding a VIN decoder document the automaker had filed with the government.
