Vehicles with alternative powertrains (those not powered purely by gasoline) are expected to account for 36 percent of the world market by 2025 according to a forecast by LMC Automotive.

With the V8 engine is losing its foothold, it seems like the V6 engine may suffer the same fate.

It’s no secret that the upcoming Corporate Average Fuel Economy targets, whereby all automakers who sell vehicles in the US, must achieve 35.5 miles per gallon as a fleet average between now and 2016 and  54.5 mpg for cars and light trucks by 2025, represent a formidable hurdle.

Despite sharing a good deal of componentry with it’s Cadillac cousin; the SRX;  Saab’s upcoming 9-4X crossover is not following the same path as the Caddy for 2012; at least when it comes to engines.
