2012 Chevrolet Cars
GM’s volume brand, Chevrolet sells everything from sub-compact and compact cars like the Sonic and Cruze, to sports cars like the Corvette and trucks like the Silverado. Other volume models include the Malibu family sedan, Equinox and Traverse crossovers, the Tahoe SUV and Camaro sports car. Like all of the big three domestic automakers GM also offers Heavy Duty trucks for both personal and commercial use. Plus, there’s the Volt, offering 40 miles of emissions-free driving with a 300 mile gasoline extended range.
Chevy was founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and Willian C. Durant with the mandate to build mainstream automobiles and compete against the Ford Motor Company’s Model T. Ousted from General Motors, in 1910, by 1916 Durant had built Chevrolet into such a profitable automaker that he bought a controlling interest in GM and was made president the following year. Among Chevrolet’s claims to fame are the small-block V8, which has remained in continuous production since 1955.
