2013 Honda Cars
As an automaker Honda has been tremendously successful selling a small variation of models, but in significant numbers. Honda’s Civic, Accord and CR-V are all some of the best selling vehicles in America. The Odyssey has long been one of the top-selling minivans while the Fit was for years the one bright light in its segment.
Second to Toyota in the sale of hybrid models, Honda introduced the Insight sedan in 2010 followed by the CR-Z sport hybrid in 2011, both of which have been met with limited success. Other sales disappointments include the Ridgeline pickup and Accord Crosstour. Honda’s best-selling hybrid by far has been its Civic Hybrid.
Established in 1948 Honda initially began producing motorcycles. Its first car was the T360 mini pickup which went on sale in 1963, followed by the S500 sports car in that same year. Honda was the first automaker to introduce variable valve timing (VTEC) technology in its engines and combined with cars like the Civic Si helped launch a new generation of what have been termed sport compact enthusiasts.
Honda’s current push has been away from sporty machines and into the hybrid realm, after the introduction of the world’s first production hybrid, the Insight in 1999. A slew of more modern hybrids have been introduce but all using the brand’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) mild-hybrid system, which the automaker intends to phase out in favor of a full-hybrid system in the near future.
