2012 Lincoln Cars
Lincoln, a division of Ford, is a luxury brand that offers vehicles like the MKZ sedan as well as the larger MKS sedan, the MKX and MKT crossovers and the venerable Navigator SUV. The MKZ is available as a hybrid, while the MKS and MKT offer turbocharged Ecoboost powerplants that offer V8 performance with V6 fuel economy.
Lincoln was launched in 1915 by Henry M. Leland, who founded archrival Cadillac, but left when the brand was sold to General Motors. Named after U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, the brand was considered one of America’s leading automakers, producing ultra-expensive luxury cars powered by V12 engines and styled by some of the world’s finest coachbuilders. The brand later produced the Continental sedan, known for its suicide doors and its association with U.S. President John F. Kennedy. Lincoln’s Town Car was another iconic vehicle that was killed off in 2011, and enjoyed decades of dominance as America’s favorite luxury car, especially as a chauffeur-driven vehicle. Lincoln is currently in flux as it attempts to define itself as a top-tier luxury brand while marketing improved Ford products as its own.
