The most researched vehicles this week in AutoGuide.com’s new cars section range from practical and fuel efficient to power-driven pony cars.

Two Japanese vehicles: the Acura ILX and Mazda6 both made the list as did the Kia Forte from Korean. Based on the Honda Civic, the ILX can come with either a 2.0-liter or 2.4-liter gasoline powertrain as well as a hybrid version that uses a 1.5-liter four.

Meanwhile, both the Kia Forte and Mazda6 are gathering attention for their attractive styling.

The same is true of the Ford Fusion, although the hybrid version of that car made headlines this week for a different reason. Ford announced a software update that it says will improve the mileage of its Fusion and C-Max hybrids significantly.

Finally, the Ford Mustang wraps this week’s list up with an available 5.0-liter V8 and plenty of power to burn the tires. The current car’s personality might not be around much longer though. Its next generation is coming soon in the 2015 model year, where it will lose its live rear axle.
