The folks at Green Car Journal have just released their list of finalists for the 2015 Green Car of the Year award. The group includes a surprising diversity of vehicles from several manufacturers.

Green Car Journal has been honoring environmentally responsible vehicles since 2005. The winner will be announced at the L.A. Auto Show next month. But as it stands here are the vehicles that made the cut.

Audi’s spunky A3 TDI offers a lot of style and performance in a luxurious package. Its torque-rich diesel engine hits hard and sips fuel. It’s upscale and thrifty, an unusual combination.

With a space-age and extremely lightweight carbon-fiber body the BMW i3 is a laudable technological achievement. An aluminum space frame also helps cut weight and increase the efficiency of this electric car. An available gasoline-powered range-extender makes it even more versatile.

The Chevrolet Impala Bi-Fuel is a large and lovely sedan that can burn regular gasoline or clean and affordable natural gas. This car’s omnivorous diet makes it an interesting choice; its spacious interior means it’s got room for the whole family.

Honda’s ever-thrifty Fit hatchback has an ultra space-efficient body and super flexible seating for maximum versatility. Its 1.5-liter Earth Dreams four-cylinder engine is as economical as ever, netting up to 41 MPG highway.

Finally, who doesn’t love a little Volkswagen hatchback action? The company’s Golf is stylish and fun, satisfying and functional. This popular car, now in its seventh generation, is better than ever and offers clean diesel power or an available all-electric drivetrain.

What do you think of these finalists? Do you think the folks at Green Car Journal are missing anything?
