Lexus RC F Enters Virtual Reality With Oculus Rift

The Oculus Rift isn’t just being used to develop video games.

The Japanese automaker has created a virtual driving experience starring its all-new 2015 RC F sports car that uses the car’s actual steering column, foot pedals and an Oculus Rift DK2 headset. Lexus is calling the setup the Lexus RC F Rift and it’ll be heading to select auto shows in the U.S. for the next several months.

In the Lexus RC F Rift, users will be able to virtually race the car around a track but it’s unclear how realistic the steering feels and how much it truly reflects the RC F’s handling. Nonetheless, it’s an interesting application for the Oculus Rift technology and proves that virtual reality can be used for more things than just video games.
