With the MercedesMaybach line officially launching, BMW is strongly considering making the 9 Series a reality.

Last year, the German automaker debuted the Vision Future Luxury concept with the company’s design director, Adrian van Hooydonk saying that it’s “a long-term outlook on the perception of modern luxury for the brand.” According to the latest rumors, BMW is still mulling over the option of launching a 9 Series family and is expected to make a decision this year. If the lineup does get greenlit, expect it to arrive sometime in 2017.

It is likely BMW is patiently waiting to see how the Mercedes-Benz S600 Maybach does in the marketplace before deciding if the investment is worth making towards a 9 Series model. It is also being reported that the next BMW CEO, Harold Krueger, is a fan of the idea for a 9 Series so a final decision might not be made until he takes the role on May 1, 2015.
