New rumors on the next Toyota Supra have surfaced.

Previewed by the FT-1 concept, the new Toyota Supra is rumored to arrive as a 2018 model with a turbocharged inline-six cylinder engine from BMW providing power. The next-generation sports car is the result of a collaboration between BMW and Toyota, with the German automaker also largely responsible for the Supra’s chassis. As we reported earlier, BMW will use the partnership to create its next Z4, which won’t compete directly with the Supra.

According to the report, Toyota will not only contribute money to the partnership but is sharing some of its inexpensive hybrid technology with BMW. Currently it doesn’t appear that either of the new cars will use hybrid technology, but it is likely that BMW will offer its Z4 with a smaller, four-cylinder engine while Toyota will stick exclusively to the inline-six engine.

To all the people saying Yamaha built the 1JZ and 2JZ: Yamaha and Toyota have been collaborating on engines since the 3M in the 2000GT. To my knowledge, Yamaha do all the cylinder head designs on all Toyota's engines. I do think Toyota's going about building their sportier cars the wrong way by sourcing engines and chassis builds from other companies. Like the 86... Wow. That was the stupidest thing they could have done. They name a Subaru built, Subaru boxer powered coupe after a racing Icon, The AE86... What a disgrace. They should have built it themselves and put something in them that was reminiscent of the 4AGE. It's embarrassing being a Toyota fanatic and seeing these bloody things everywhere with a WRX exhaust note, yuck. I'm afraid the same thing will happen here. Two versions will be built, A Toyota and a BMW, Only difference is badges and slight changed to body kits... Not to mention prices for anything going wrong on the BMW side of the car will cost a fortune! They should build it themselves and design a 3JZ, or even twin turbocharge their current V6's.

Ya left out Dodge and Mitsu. Your last comment gave a smile and why not add a nitro button :)) Loved my 88 Celica all trak but the 143mph ticket, pricey.

Interesting that both want to use different engines. I wonder what the horsepower difference between a turbo 4 and 6 will be. I foresee many engine swaps being done if there is a huge difference.
