BMW may finally have a proper competitor to the Audi S8 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class AMG models.

The long-rumored BMW M7 will make its debut in 2016, according to a recent report from German publication Autobild.

Based on the 2016 BMW 7 Series that AutoGuide.com‘s spy photographers have caught on camera numerous times already, the more powerful M7 will feature larger air intakes in the front bumper, more aggressive side skirts, a rear diffuser and a sporty exhaust system from the M5 and M6 Gran Coupe. It’s unknown what will power the high-performance luxury sedan, but it is believed that the M7 will deliver over 600 hp whether it’s through a naturally-aspirated V12 or turbocharged V8.

Over the recent years, it is believed that outgoing BMW CEO Dr. Norbert Reithofer has opposed the idea of an M7, but even if the car arrives under the new CEO Harald Krueger, it’ll be considered Reithofer’s creation. If the BMW M7 does finally surface, expect it to be priced competitively with the S-Class AMG models, which starts from $142,375 for the S63 AMG.
