Toyota is pushing the Mirai into the spotlight.

The Japanese automaker has announced that the hydrogen-powered car will act as the pace car for the upcoming Toyota Owners 400 taking place this weekend at Virginia’s Richmond International Raceway.

This will be the first time a hydrogen-powered car will pace a Nascar race. Toyota was also the first automaker to supply a hybrid pace car for a Nascar race back in 2009 when a Camry Hybrid paced the Coca-Cola 600.

Toyota is beginning a marketing push with the Mirai, having just launched a campaign this week to show off that the car can run on cow waste.

The Toyota Mirai costs $57,500 if you want to purchase it, or it can be had with a lease deal at $499 per month over 36 months, with $3,649 due at signing.
