Hyundai's Hybrid Prius Fighter Spied Again

Hyundai is still working on bringing a dedicated hybrid to market.

Once again, our spy photographers have grabbed some photos of Hyundai’s hybrid, which will fight the Toyota Prius. Coincidentally, it also looks quite a bit like the Prius, with the same shaped body likely for good aerodynamics.

Under the hood, we expect a 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder gas engine will be linked up to an electric motor being fed by a lithium-ion battery pack. A plug-in hybrid setup will probably join the lineup about a year after it launches.

The nose of the car wears horizontal grille slats along with blue-accented headlights and LED running lights. In the rear, we can see a small spoiler on top of the hatch. Hyundai’s new hybrid will share its platform with the next-generation Elantra and will be initially offered as a five-door hatchback. More body styles to better match the Prius lineup will likely be released later in the car’s life.

Production is supposed to begin in the second half of 2016, so this will likely be a model year 2017 vehicle.

funny these "Prius fighters" look just like a Prius - the latest Honda Insight failure was the same way....not just the aerodynamic shape either.
