Ford will be sending the 2017 F-150 Raptor to a market it has never been sold in before: China.

The truck, which will feature a high-output 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 and ten-speed automatic transmission, will test the waters for Ford trucks in China, where large trucks and SUVs have traditionally done well.

Ford expects that the Raptor will be a low volume vehicle in China.

“F-150 Raptor is the ultimate showcase of the tough capability available throughout Ford’s family of trucks and SUVs,” said John Lawler, chairman and CEO, Ford Motor China. “By introducing it to the world’s largest auto market, we hope to inspire a new generation of off-road enthusiasts, and demonstrate how we are always bringing our customers new innovations.”

The truck will be targeted at weekend warriors in China, where a strong off-road culture exists. According to the Specialty Equipment Manufacturing Association, the aftermarket parts business was booming in China in 2015.

Interesting seeing how that pans out The buying of something 'to be different/a novelty' will help though that market segment will be small (in terms of other car sales/as they expect) - SUV's have done well in China - but nowhere, except perhaps Thailand, loves a pick-up as does the US ... I forget the scale but i guess it'll be retailing around the USD 180-280k mark when it arrives here Good on Ford for giving the buyers the option .........
