Hyundai’s Genesis luxury brand is working to develop its own all-electric car.

“We will definitely go as Genesis brand down the road of alternative propulsions and it is very, very obvious that EV is definitely on the map,” Hyundai’s senior vice president Manfred Fitzgerald told Reuters. “I think full electric cars will be the future in the auto industry,” he said.

Hyundai already has experience with electric vehicles as the brand is gearing up to release its new Ioniq sedan. But Genesis wants to differentiate itself from Hyundai and will likely develop its own electric vehicle system, especially considering its cars are larger than the Ioniq.

Genesis has also announced its intention to launch a diesel-powered G80, as the brand believes that having a diverse offering of powertrains is essential to success in the luxury market.
