The Most Popular Automaker in the World Isn't a Big Surprise

The most popular automaker in the world is Toyota and the competition isn’t even close.

According to a new study conducted by U.K.’s Registration Transfers Limited, Toyota is the most popular automaker in 49 countries around the world, while Volkswagen is a distant second with 14 countries to its name. Ford comes in third place as the most popular in eight countries. From there, European automakers round out the list, with Renault and Skoda most popular in six countries, Dacia and Fiat most popular in five.

In North American however, Ford is most popular in both the U.S. and Canada, while Nissan takes the crown in Mexico. Ford is also most popular in the U.K., Nigeria, Venezuela, and New Zealand, while Chevrolet is most popular in Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, and Egypt.
