2019 Hyundai Ioniq Gets New Safety Features

The Hyundai Ioniq lineup will get some minor improvements for the 2019 model year.

Heading to Hyundai dealerships this summer, there are a few new things for the electrified model. Driver attention alert and high beam assist safety features will be available, while automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and smart cruise control have been added to the SEL trim. In addition, the Plug-in and Electric models benefit from standard remote charge management via Blue Link. Lastly, HERE provides the Ioniq with enhanced, natural language, server-based voice recognition and POI-search database.

The Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid Blue model returns an estimated 58-mpg combined rating, which is the highest rating of any non-plug-in vehicle sold in the U.S. The hybrid’s electric motor provides an estimated 43 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque, combined with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. Total system output on the Ioniq Hybrid is 139 hp.

The Hyundai Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid combines the best of both electric and hybrid worlds, delivering an estimated all-electric range of 29 miles, 119 MPGe in EV mode, and 52 mpg in hybrid mode. It also features a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 104 hp and 109 lb-ft of torque, while the 60-hp electric motor can operate at speeds up to 75 mph.

Electric vehicle shoppers can opt for the Ioniq Electric, which delivers an estimated 136 MPGe, which is the highest efficiency rating of any electric vehicle sold in the U.S. Featuring a 28-kWh lithium-ion battery, the Ioniq Electric has an estimated driving range of 124 miles, with the electric motor providing a maximum output of 118 hp and 218 lb-ft of torque.

Expect pricing for the 2019 Hyundai Ioniq lineup to be announced closer to the model’s launch this summer.
