Ford has issued a recall for 550,000 Fusion sedans and Escape crossovers as the vehicles may present a rollaway risk.

The American automaker has recalled certain examples of the 2013-2016 Fusion and the 2013-2014 Escape. It says the vehicles may have a faulty bushing in the transmission responsible for holding the shifter cable in place. Affected vehicles may show an incorrect gear for which gear has actually been selected. The vehicle may show that it is in ‘park’ when it is actually in ‘neutral’, for example.

Ford says no injuries or accidents have been linked to the problem. The automaker says owners of affected vehicles should take them into their local dealership and have the faulty part replaced free of charge. In the meantime, owners of these vehicles are advised to always use the parking brake when leaving their vehicle in ‘park’ to prevent a rollaway.

Concerned vehicle owners may contact the Ford Customer Relation Center at 1-800-392-3673. They may also follow this link, where they can use Ford’s recall lookup tool by entering their vehicle’s VIN.
