The 2019 Mazda3 is an entirely new car from its approach to styling, a completely redone rear suspension setup, a distraction-free interior, and an additional drivetrain option that powers all four wheels. It’s impressive that even with all this new stuff, however, that the Mazda3 feels so naturally like its old self in all the best ways.

The 2020 Mazda3 rides on a brand-new architecture, features newly designed powertrains and is equipped with some of the newest technology around. It truly is an all-new car, but how have engineers managed to deliver a high-quality, efficient vehicle at a mass-market price?

Mazdas are expected to drive with a finesse belying their mass-market price tags, to connect with motorists in a way rival vehicles simply don’t. After all, it is the zoom-zoom brand.

“Because we’re targeting a more premium space, we also had to change our design discipline to be more sophisticated,” said Julien Montousse, director of design at Mazda North American Operations.

Under the hood of the new Mazda3 will be a range of four-cylinder engines. Both 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine options will be on offer along with the highly anticipated Skyactiv-X spark controlled compression ignition engine. Mazda is staying tight-lipped with regard to power and torque figures for the two engines for now, though.

The 2019 Mazda 3 is set to get a new SkyActiv-X engine, but it looks like the cabin is getting a few upgrades as well.
