Rumors of the Opel Cascada heading to America as a Buick model surfaced late last year, so we decided to take a closer look at the convertible at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

The Cascada is based on General Motors’ Delta platform, and is available in two trim levels in Europe, the entry-level “Edition” and a more upscale “Innovation.” The higher-end model features adaptive lights, dual-zone climate control, and a more isolating fabric top. According to Opel in Geneva, the Cascada’s fabric top can be lowered in 17 seconds and can be controlled directly from the key fob. If driving, it can be lowered at speeds up to 31 mph.

Powerplants available in Europe include a 1.4-liter, turbo-four engine with 118 hp or 138 hp, a 1.6-liter turbo with 168 hp. Diesel offerings include a 2.0-liter with 163 hp or 192 hp. The 192 hp diesel engine also packs 295 lb-ft of torque. The Cascada comes with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, though a six-speed automatic is available as an option.

Whether or not the Opel Cascada comes to America rebadged as a Buick remains to be seen, but so far the Buick brand has had fair success with rebadging existing European vehicles – the Opel Insignia is America’s Regal.
