GM CEO Wants Opel Cascada, Adam Models Added to Buick Lineup

At an investor’s conference at General Motors‘ Detroit proving grounds this month, CEO Dan Akerson expressed his desire to add the Opel Adam and Cascada to the Buick model lineup.

When we saw the Opel Cascada earlier this year at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, we believed it was essentially a Buick Regal convertible, considering the two-door, four-seater is built on the same platform as the Buick Verano. The Opel Adam, which arrived in European showrooms earlier this year, is a Fiat 500 fighter and has generally received praise in Europe.

Akerson believes both vehicles should have been developed for the U.S. market and regrets that the American automaker didn’t. But that doesn’t rule out that both models are still possibilities for the Buick brand. Last month, GM North American President Mark Reuss mentioned that Buick is working on something special, so perhaps an overseas Opel model being amalgamated for America is becoming a reality.

Why wouldn't it be a Verano convertible, rather than a Regal, if it's built on the Verano/Astra platform?
