Toyota Named Most Valuable Car Brand as Volkswagen Drops

Toyota tops the list of automakers in Interbrand’s 2015 best global brands list.

Coming in sixth place overall, Toyota is behind Apple, Google, Coca-Cola, Microsoft and IBM on this year’s list. Looking specifically at automakers, BMW is next at 11th followed by Mercedes-Benz just one spot behind at 12th. According to the survey, Toyota improved 16 percent while BMW saw a 9 percent increase and Mercedes notched 7 percent. Honda came in 19th overall, seeing a 6 percent increase while Volkswagen dropped 9 percent to 35th overall.

Still, Volkswagen is ahead of Ford (38), Hyundai (39), Audi (44), Nissan (49) and Porsche (56). Other automakers cracking the top 100 include Kia (74), Chevrolet (85), Land Rover (87) and MINI (98). This is the first time MINI has appeared on the list.

The survey calculates the financial performance of a brand, its overall influence and the profit potential of the brand.
