The 2018 Hyundai Kona will arrive dealerships in March with a starting price of $20,450 including a $950 destination fee in the U.S.

Available in four trim levels, the compact Kona is the Korean automaker’s first subcompact crossover and will compete with cars like the Honda HR-V and Chevrolet Trax. The standard SE and SEL models are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Atkinson engine with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, while the Limited and Ultimate trims feature a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood producing 175 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0-liter engine is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, while the turbocharged mill gets a seven-speed EcoShift dual clutch transmission.

The 2018 Hyundai Kona will be available with a variety of exterior colors, including Chalk White, Ultra Black, Sonic Silver, Thunder Gray, Pulse Red, Surf Blue, and Lime Twist.

To stay competitive in the segment, the Kona comes standard with a seven-inch touchscreen that includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability. And despite its compact size, the Kona offers 19.2 cubic feet of rear cargo volume.

Overall, I like the look, but why create a cool polygonal grille the actual front air intake is a tiny and painfully visible rectangle above and an even sadder one below the bumper? I call this approach an infake, and I want all of them gone.
