Rumors and speculation about the next electric BMW have included everything from a van, a midsize sedan, a full-size sedan or an SUV, and now Autocar is reporting that it will indeed be an SUV. AutoGuide.com discovered patent drawings filed in Japan for an unnamed electric car, and BMW has also filed patents for i1 through i9 for its range of electric vehicles, and AutoCar believes the vehicle in the patent drawings will be assigned the i4 badge.

A recent patent publication in Japan may have just revealed the BMW i5.

BMW is putting a strong focus on its electric cars.

BMW is in “the final stages” of deciding which model type the BMW i5 will be.

BMW is already working on its next electric vehicle, likely called the i5, despite the fact that the i3 is only on sale in Europe currently.

The rumor mill is churning that BMW could stretch its i3 model to create a new family car, likely to be called the i5.
