Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport At The Nurburgring
VW shared teaser images of the new eighth-generation GTI Clubsport today, which will debut at the Nurburgring 24h endurance race. Alongside the production car, VW will have several GTIs entered in the race to help celebrate the Golf's 50th anniversary!
The Golf GTI Clubsport 24h will race in the AT3 class. Originally this car was part of the development program for the Golf TCR, before ending up in the Volkswagen Classic portfolio. Now it's been dressed in the same special camouflage design as the production car and will serve as a test bed for alternative fuels, running a new high-tech bioethanol E20 fuel from technology partner Shell.
Alongside the TCR, there will be three classic first-generation Golf GTIs that will participate in the race as well. One of the things that makes the Nurburgring 24h so unique is the wide mix of cars allowed to share the track. The three classic Golfs are all from the German KWL squad, their 1980 Group 2 Golf GTI will wear the same camouflage livery, tying the entire timeline together.
