Of the roughly 25,000 souls that perish inside a car on American roadways each year, roughly a quarter of those are passengers.  Honda has developed a new type of airbag targeted at saving those lives in particular.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has identified about 313,000 older Hondas that have particularly dangerous Takata airbags. 

Four automakers are currently selling cars that they will probably have to recall in the coming years. 

The massive recall for faulty airbags made by Japanese automotive supplier Takata could get a lot bigger. 

In the future, cars could come equipped with external airbags to help enhance safety.
