Half a million Porsche Cayenne SUVS can be counted among the automaker’s roster of vehicles built.

The brand welcomed its 500,000th Cayenne off the Leipzig, Germany assembly line today.

“We started with around 70 units a day. Today we produce five times as much owing to the high market demand. In the past year alone, over 83,000 Cayenne vehicles for customers in more than 125 countries have rolled off the assembly line,” Porsche board member Oliver Blume said.

Porsche wasn’t sure how the Cayenne would be initially received, and the SUV launched with two V8-powered versions: the Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo. Today, the automaker offers seven drivetrain variants including a diesel, a hybrid, the base six cylinder engine and the range-topping Turbo S.
