Kia has given its Sportage crossover a facelift for 2014, bringing with it new style and a more powerful base engine option.

Thanks to the addition of direct injection, the base 2.4-liter for-cylinder makes 182 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. The mill is also expected to enjoy fuel economy improvements over the current 20 mpg city and 27 mpg in an automatic transmission Sportage. A more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is also available, making 260 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque.

A new grille design along with updated fog lamps and taillights are seen on the 2014 Sportage, though the overall style remains closely related to the 2013 model.

Ride quality will also improve thanks to new high performance dampers have been installed across all trim levels. A tilt and telescopic steering column has also been added as standard equipment across all trim levels.

When it comes to features, the Sportage offers amenities including a panoramic sunroof, power-folding side mirrors, HID headlights, and UVO eServices.

Pricing was not announced, but the base price will likely stay close to the 2013 model at around $22,500.
