Toyota Recalling 803K Vehicles for AC Condenser Leak

Toyota has announced a voluntary recall of about 803,000 vehicles over problems with a leaky air conditioning condenser unit.

The 2012 and 2013 Toyota Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, Avalon Hybrid and Venza are affected by the issue, which involves water leaking from the air conditioning condenser unit. If that water leaks on the airbag control module, it can cause a short circuit, resulting in the airbag warning light coming on. In some cases, it may be enough to either disable the airbag, or to set off the airbag inadvertently.

Power steering functions are also at risk thanks to this leak, as in some instances a communication line in the airbag module can be damaged, causing loss of power steering functions.

Toyota dealers will apply sealant along with installing a cover over the air conditioner unit to remedy the problem.

The Japanese DO build good cars. It's their designs and engineering that take the hit when they're built in America. American sub-standard parts that are used to build the cars and the low-quality/don't care of so many of the American workers, result in a Japanese engineered car built in America that doesn't last or has problems from the second it rolls off the assembly line. However, they're still built better than Dodge or GM products. My Japanese built 1995 Honda has over 300,000 miles on the odo, and it is STILL going strong with viirtually ZERON compression loss in the engine, no leaks, no major mechanical issue and still looks almost showroom new. My 10 year old American built Toyota has been nothing but problems from the AC issues that Toyota REFUSES to acknowledge (rampant on this model Toyota) to the oil leaks around the valve covers, to the faulty rear suspension where the coil springs have collapsed under the car's weight. So yes, the Japanese DO build good cars. Just that Toyota cars built in America reflect American quality issues, not Japanese.
