Nissan Recalls 238K Altimas Over Hood Latch Issue

Nissan has issued a recall for 238,000 Altima sedans worldwide due to a faulty secondary hood latch.

Altimas from the 2013 model year are affected by the issue which occurs because the inner hood panel along with debris and corrosion can interfere with the secondary latch lever. If the latch gets jammed, it will remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed. That means that if the primary latch is inadvertently opened while the car is driving, the hood is likely to fly open.

“Nissan became aware of a small number of incidents in which the hood came open while the car was moving, causing damage to the car itself,” said the company. Despite this, no collisions or injuries have been reported as a result of this condition.

To fix the problem, Nissan dealers will modify the bend angle of the hood lever and clean and lubricate the latch if necessary. Roughly 219,000 of the affected vehicles are in the U.S.
