Lexus LF-C2 Goes All Topless All The Time in LA

If you think Lexus’ spindle grille corporate face is extreme, you will want to pay close attention to the concept it just debuted in L.A.

The company just officially unveiled its LF-C2 concept in Southern California, saying it serves as a preview of design cues to come on future Lexus products. It uses a 2+2 seat layout and has absolutely no roof covering, although that probably doesn’t matter because this is only a design concept.

Powertrain details are completely undisclosed, but the concept does serve as an indicator if not an outright confirmation that Lexus is eyeing a new convertible grand touring car to fill a slot that is currently only being filled by the outdated IS C.

Lexus is still keeping specific plans for a production car in the dark, but the LF-C2 looks like little more than a thinly-veiled preview of an open top version of the new RC sport coupe. The concept is 185.6 inches long or only a whisper greater than the production RC 350 and is exactly the same width as that car at 72.4 inches.

Convertible sales are cooling in North America, but if Lexus makes a successful business case to market a drop top RC, it is almost a given that it will source power from the same 3.5-liter V6 as the RC 350.
