New Volkswagen Beetle In the Works
Reports that the Volkswagen Beetle may be discontinued have been proven false.
Speaking with Autoblog, Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, member of the board of management responsible for development at Volkswagen revealed that new Beetle will arrive sometime in the next three years. The car will be built on VW’s MQB scalable platform that currently underpins the Golf. Neusser says the move to MQB opens the door for an electrified powertrain of some kind in the Beetle.

The Beetle will shed most of its design as well, opting for VW’s new design language that will be “much more dynamic, much more emotional,” said Neusser. VW wants the new Beetle to have “more emotional potential,” pointing towards a major departure in style compared to the current car.
At the 2015 New York Auto Show, Volkswagen rolled our four different Beetle concepts, each with a unique theme to show just how emotional a Beetle can be.
