The BMW X2 has been spied cold-weather testing in snowy Sweden.

The upcoming new model is essentially a BMW X1 with a sportier body, sporting a lower roof that gives it a wider, more aggressive appearance.

Similar to the X4 and X6, the X2 will have a coupe-like appearance and will ride on a front-wheel-drive platform just like the X1. It will also be offered with the German automaker’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

At launch, expect the X2 to share its powertrain with the X1 meaning a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Rumor has it that a hotter X2 M is also in development by BMW’s M Division with around 335 hp.

A concept of the BMW X2 is expected to debut sometime this year and it will look near-production ready when it does. BMW has been adamant in expanding its crossover and SUV lineup that will now include the X1, X3, X4, X5 and X6 models. It is also working on a flagship X7 SUV that will seat seven at the top of its range.
