Audi has plans to give the U.S. access to some of its forbidden fruit.

According to Car and Driver, the German automaker will offer the RS3 sedan in the U.S. market by 2017 as a 2018 model. Under the hood will live an all-new 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo that will make around 400 horsepower.

This engine only shares a displacement with the old 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo found the European-market RS3 and TT RS, as it has been completely redesigned with an aluminum block and fresh components. The engine will debut in the new TT RS and will make the jump to a new RS3 afterwards.

Hooked up to the new engine will be a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, capable of propelling the car to a top speed of either 155 mph or 174 mph depending on which market it is sold in. The jump from 0 to 60 mph should take about four seconds.

Audi recently revealed its S3 (seen above) model, so we have a good sense for what the RS3 will look like when it arrives here in the U.S.
