BMW gave the public its first look at the 2018 BMW 5 Series in Detroit.

Announced well ahead of the show, the new BMW 5 Series is lighter and more luxurious than ever, while the addition of the new M550i xDrive model is the fastest 5 Series yet. Yes, it’s even faster than the outgoing BMW M5. With a starting price of $73,095 including destination, the BMW M550i xDrive is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 456 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque, getting it to 60 mph from a standstill in 3.9 seconds.

The luxury sedan will also launch in the U.S. in 530i and 540i models with the entry-level featuring a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The more powerful 540i boasts 335 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque.

There’s also the BMW 530e iPerformance plug-in hybrid that has a total system output of 248 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. That model will start from $52,395 while all-wheel drive will cost $2,300 additional.
