Bugatti Chiron Successor Already Being Discussed
The Bugatti Chiron will remain in production for a while longer, but the supercar manufacturer is already discussing its next project.
Speaking to Road & Track, Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Durheimer revealed the Chiron will stay in production for about six years, after which a successor will likely arrive. It takes quite a while to develop 1,000+ hypercars capable of topping 260 mph, so Bugatti is best off getting to work on the Chiron’s replacement sooner rather than later.
“Chiron will be with us for quite some time,” Durheimer said. “It is supposed to sell for six years—right now we have a waiting list of four years. We have now sold car number 300 out of 500 and we are doing 70 a year. We are not increasing the volume. So the question, what is the next one, needs to be answered in 2019. Next year is a pre-development year where we evaluate the different ideas.”

It’s not clear what may power the Chiron successor or if it will be a hybrid, but Durheimer made it clear it will be better than the Chiron in just about every respect. In his words, “the race will go on. We will go faster, quicker, and be better in every dimension.” The Chiron just broke the world record for accelerating from 0-400 km/h and braking back to 0, completing the feat in just 41.96 seconds. Performance like that will be hard to top, but we thought it’d be difficult to raise the bar past the Veyron and Bugatti did that fairly easily.
