UPS has teamed up with U.K.-based technology firm Arrival to develop electric delivery vehicles.

The state-of-the-art pilot fleet consists of 35 EVs that will be tested in London and Paris, sporting a range of more than 150 miles (240 kilometers), which is significantly higher than other EVs currently in service. The delivery vehicles also come equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which the company says help to improve safety and reduce driver fatigue.

Arrival is the first commercial vehicle manufacturer in Europe to provide electric delivery vehicles to UPS’s specifications. The two companies have been working on prototypes of different sizes since 2016, and the first of these test vehicles are scheduled to be on the road before the end of 2018.

Currently, UPS has over 9,000 vehicles worldwide that operate using alternative propulsion methods. The company says it has one of the largest private and most diverse alternative fuel and advanced technology fleets in the entire logistics industry. In Europe and the U.S., UPS currently has more than 300 electric vehicles being used, and nearly 700 hybrids. The company has also ordered 125 units of Tesla’s new Semi, which is the largest pre-order to date.

“We’re excited to collaborate with UPS to create an affordable, modular, fully electric delivery vehicle designed to make deliveries in our busy cities clean and quiet,” said Denis Sverdlov, CEO of ARRIVAL. “With its unique, wrap-around front window the driver has a much wider field of view that improves not only the safety of the driver but also that of cyclists and pedestrians.”
