BMW M8 Leaks in Full Ahead of Debut, Looks Mean as Hell

The BMW M8 appears to have leaked online well ahead of its debut next year.

While BMW certainly won’t be happy about this leak, this is just about the least surprising exposé of all time. The German automaker has already showed the M850i and raced an M8 GTE this past year, so we already knew that an extra-hot 8 Series was coming down the pipe very, very soon.

What we didn’t expect, though, was how much better the 8 Series would look done up as a full-blown M car. This appears to be an M8 Competition as well, featuring some carbon add-ons and Competition wheels.

As the leaked images reveal, the M8 Competition will get a new front fascia with carbon fiber intakes, a huge carbon fiber rear diffuser, massive quad exhaust tips, a carbon ducktail spoiler and gloss black exterior trim. This leak shows the interior, which is nicely appointed with carbon trim and textured upholstery.

Technical stats aren’t yet available, but you can expect the M8 Competition to pack a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 under its hood making well over 600 hp. The M5 Competition, which uses the same engine, is rated at 616 hp and we wouldn’t be surprised if the M8 made quite a bit more power than its little brother.

BMW’s M xDrive system should be present in the M8 as well, along with its eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup allows the lesser M850i xDrive to sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.6s, so the M8 may be able to hustle to 60 mph in a as little as three seconds flat. We remember a time when performance like that was reserved for the upper echelon of supercars.

The 2019 BMW M8 and M8 Competition will debut sometime next year. The automaker is also expected to roll out an 8 Series Gran Coupe sedan eventually, which will be joined by an M8 Gran Coupe. Expect an 8 Series and M8 convertible to join the fray at some point as well.
