It’s billed as the world’s largest motor racing festival and the 2011 event, which will take place on 22-24 July was officially announced in style.

At Silverstone, some 800 vintage race cars will take Grand Prix track as Event Director Nick Wigley announced that the 2011 Classic will be the biggest and best yet.

Just how big exactly? Well around 1000 competitors will be driving those 800 cars and there’ll be a full program of some 22 races that will take place over the course of the weekend. In addition, there will be a special celebrity challenge, with famous personalities racing around the track in identically prepped Morgans, plus a special celebration of the E-Type Jaguar with a planned parade of some 1000 examples to honor the iconic sports car’s 50th anniversary.

Other attractions include live music on Friday and Saturday, with an orchestra on Sunday; air displays, hot air balloons, a fun fair, a shopping village and even lawnmower racing. And if you’re hungry, Jamie Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts will be providing catering services over the course of the weekend.

So, if you happen to find yourself in Central England towards the end of the July and looking for something to do, head on over to the Silverstone Classic:
