Dodge Dart Hatchback Maybe Revealed in Patent Drawings

Dubious news about a Dodge Dart hatchback is surfacing after an Italian forum posted patent drawings depicting what could be a hatchback version of the brand’s high mpg poster boy. Then again, maybe not.

At this point Chrysler has yet to confirm a Dart hatchback, but it’s important not to forget that there’s an Italian doppelganger to the American compact that is already underpinned by a Fiat platform. What’s more, Fiat has hinted in the past at a hatchback version of the Viaggio (a.k.a. Italian Dart) for the Chinese market.

Even if there is a hatchback Dart on the way, we wouldn’t guess it would look like the car drawn above. It’s too close to the current version, with little more than a shorter rear end to set the two apart. Given that it would be competing with cars like the Ford Focus hatchback, it wouldn’t make sense for this to be the U.S. version.
