Set to take on the Audi RS3 and BMW M135i, neither of which are available in North America, Mercedes has reportedly confirmed details of its upcoming premium hot-hatch, which will wear the A45 AMG badge.

Using a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, power will be upped to 330 hp, with full torque at 295 lb-ft. That power will make it to all-four wheels though a Haldex AWD system and thankfully enthusiasts will be spared the use of yet another 7-speed automatic. Instead, the A45 will come paired with the brand’s new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Haldex system will be capable of delivering most of its power to the rear wheels

Compared to the rest of the new A-Class models, the A45 will get a lower and stiffer suspension, a wider track, larger wheels and tires plus upgraded brakes.

A car of many firsts, the A45 will be the first AMG model to use a transversely mounted engine, and will also be the most powerful 4-cylidner the automaker has ever made.
