A recall has been issued for the model year 2007-2009 Mercedes-Benz E350 4MATIC Wagon equipped with load leveling rear air suspension.

The problem is with the ball head of a connecting rod which is at risk of seizing. The connecting rod transfers the vertical movement of the suspension to a sensor that measures the amount of pressure in the system. If the ball head seizes the rod will snap, causing the car to believe that the air pressure is low. This triggers a constant attempt to increase the pressure, at first causing ride stiffness and discomfort, which can eventually lead to failure of the air bellows.

3,613 vehicles are potentially affected by this issue. The recall is expected to begin in August, 2012, and for more information you can contact the NHTSA safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
