The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is opening an investigation on 2011-2012 model year Jeep Patriots over an engine stalling issue at high speeds.

112,000 Jeep Patriots could be affected if there’s an issue. So far, NHTSA has received 12 complaints, with 10 of them occurring at speeds of 65 mph or higher. Every complaint made to NHTSA said that the Jeep Patriot could not be immediately restarted after stalling and eight of those complaints said the vehicles could not be restarted at all and had to be towed to the dealership.

All but three of the complaints were received in the last six months and one of those incidents have resulted in a crash and injury. Owners who are concerned about their vehicles can contact their local dealership for more information.
