Ford announced today that it solved the problem posing a fire risk in the 2013 Escape and 2013 Fusion which caused the company to recall both equipped with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine.

The brand said today that an update to the cooling system software will fix the problem. The current software was not designed to handle a loss of coolant system pressure, which lead to the engine fires.

The fixes are expected to begin by Dec.17, and should take “less than one half day.” Ford has advised customers not to drive their 1.6-liter Ecoboost-equipped vehicles until the software has been updated, and has been providing customers with rental cars until their vehicle is fixed.
